Owner reviews

Just about to lose my sanity!

All the people who have given this phone great reviews must be very lucky, or maybe some of us just got a bad batch. Anyway, I am on my second W880i due to the fact that I smashed the first one to bits in a fit of utter temper with the useless article! Had to tell my network provider that I lost it. As some of the others have said, it takes to randomly turning itself off for no reason and is extremely inconsistent in its text delivery - both sending and receiving. I've had to go through some rigmarole where I choose a different network and turn the phone on and off to start them sending/receiving again sometimes. Who wants to have to do that all the time. It has resulted in many communication problems for me which have often caused quite a bit of stress! One of my friends had it and had the same problems - she used to call it the Devil Phone. I mean, it does definitely look nice and I found the buttons and set up perfectly fine. I've had Sony Ericssons before and they were always really reliable. However, as I'm sure many have also said, I think their efforts to look sleek and pretty have had a detriment on the actual function of the phone. Don't ever ever ever get one, is my recommendation. It will send you up the wall!

really really dont bother! Honest...looks are deceiving

I am glad I am not alone...had the same problems and now on the 3rd one of these after many repairs! Now looking for a cheap PAYG phone to put sim card in until contract is up for renewal....I really wouldnt bother with this phone, looks great, nice features......riddled with bugs, particulalry if you live in an area with poor reception - it has trouble picking it up, then freezes, crashes and you have to take the battery out to restart - dont even get me started on the insert sim card or invalid sim messages...........grrrrrrr

Unreliable and fiddly

Does have a sleek and compact look but difficult to handle because of the fiddly buttons. More importantly, it switches itself off randomly (happened about 8 times in 2weeks). To cap it all, it changed its own settings and lost a few wallpapers just for fun. Cant comment much on the music player and camera as I'm not a big user. In short, avoid.

I want my w800 back!

If it aint broke, don't try and fix it. I had a w800 for two years and it was the best phone I ever had. Great camera, great music player, flawless reliability despite some pretty rough treatment. But on the spur of the moment I upgraded to the 880i and gave my old handset away. I thought it would be everything the 800 was, but with even better looks and features. After my initial disappointment at the lack of a light and at having to buy another memory card (the cards for the 800 had the advantage that they fitted into my laptop card reader and could be used in my sony camera) I got used to the fiddly buttons. The software it came with seemed even more riddled with bugs than the previous lot - a bit of a problem since you can't just stick the memory card into the laptop and need to interface with disc2phone to update music. I got so frustrated with the software and the phone crashing all the time that I actually resorted to violence and accidentally broke my hard drive - which was costly! Then the turning off started. The most common time for it to turn off was when I put it down at night to go to bed - a bit of a problem since it didn't turn itself on again for the alarm. I sent it back before Christmas, waited a week and got it back with the promise that all was well. A couple of months on, the turning off began again and was coupled with more regular crashing and losing network. Off it went to the repairers again, this time returned with a note to say that they had fixed the volume switch. Hadn't even noticed it was broken! I have it returned now (minus two games I have paid for and several hours of my life). It doesn't turn itself off at the moment - with the exception of when I try to use the file transfer mode, at which point it turns itself off and on again in a repeated cycle. Have discovered a piece of software called myphoneexplorer that I can use but it doesn't beat actually being able to insert the card. Overall a big disappointment and I am seriously considering buying back the w800.

good phone, better than my old walkman!!

only problem, some times frezzers or goes of for no reason. i wanted this phone for its looks and shape, its so thin you cant tell it is in ur pocket. great phone, i bought from 'the carphone warehouse' shop and paid £200!!, this is cheaper. i would buy this phone again.
